It is time to start blogging about Honduras! It was such an awesome trip and I want to put it down in words so I can look back and relive this experience over and over again until I get back there.
I want to start this series of blogs with Ashley's story. But to start with her story, one must start with Casa de Esperanza and the story of how it all began.....Casa is why Ashley started going to Honduras so there in lies our beginnings....much of this is taken directly from their website listed at the end of this blog entry.
Casa de Esperanza is a ministry project of the InterAmerican Restoration Corporation. The dream began in April of 2005. The IRC Board was considering the purchase of a parcel of land in Santa Ana. The same weekend, Jennifer Wright made it known that she felt called to come to Honduras to take care of children in need. The land was purchased, the plans were drawn, others shared the dream and Casa de Esperanza became a reality. Karen Vaughn saw the vision and joined Jennifer as a director of Casa de Esperanza. The ground was "officially broken" in July and construction began in earnest in October. By December, most of the work was complete and there was a celebration. The first container of supplies and furniture arrived in February and Jennifer and Karen were able to move in by March. The months of "red tape" finally came to an end in early summer of 2006 and on June 23rd, INFA approved Casa de Esperanza as a facility to be home for up to 24 children. Children that will no longer be orphans, because orphans don't have anyone to love them and our kids will be loved on 24/7. On June 26th, The "House of Hope" received their first 5 children.
Remember the story of those first five children...you will be hearing more and more about them!
Karen got married to Dorian Guido and they are now expecting their first child. They still love on the kids at Casa 24/7. I have so enjoyed meeting Karen these last two trips to Honduras and I so appreciate the time she takes to keep me updated about Daniela!!!! Please remember them in your prayers as often as possible.
I finally got to meet Jennifer Wright this trip. What an amazing lady of God!!! You will hear more about Jennifer, too.
