Honduras ~ Ashley

So now to explain how Ashley ended up in Honduras! Oh yes...it's a God thing...for sure!!!! Here is the story in Ashley's words!!!!

"A little over 8 months ago I first heard of this girl named Jennifer Wright and the work she was doing at a little orphanage in the heart of Honduras. Little did I know that the story was going to be much less a simple heart warming tale and would instead change my life forever. As you all know shortly after hearing of the work God was doing through Jen I decided to join her for 3 1/2 months. That 3 1/2 months then turned into 7 as I stayed through the summer. Well, I'm home now...only I do not intend to stay. I will not be returning to school this fall. For all of you who are sitting back in your chairs, shaking your heads, thinking Im making the biggest mistake of my life I ask that you would hear me out. I went to Honduras 7 months ago because I could feel God leading me down that path. From the moment I moved into Casa and started my new life there my life change in more ways that I could ever begin to put into words."

I guarantee you won't be sorry....Ashley is a wonderful blogger!!!!!

OK...so now you know about Casa and Ashley....the next person you have to put in God' pyramid to Honduras is someone very, very special to me....and that is Michael Wallace. His story is next and as special as the other stories are...Michael's story touches me very, very deeply.

Honduras ~ Casa de Esperanza

It is time to start blogging about Honduras! It was such an awesome trip and I want to put it down in words so I can look back and relive this experience over and over again until I get back there.

I want to start this series of blogs with Ashley's story. But to start with her story, one must start with Casa de Esperanza and the story of how it all began.....Casa is why Ashley started going to Honduras so there in lies our beginnings....much of this is taken directly from their website listed at the end of this blog entry.

Casa de Esperanza is a ministry project of the InterAmerican Restoration Corporation. The dream began in April of 2005. The IRC Board was considering the purchase of a parcel of land in Santa Ana. The same weekend, Jennifer Wright made it known that she felt called to come to Honduras to take care of children in need. The land was purchased, the plans were drawn, others shared the dream and Casa de Esperanza became a reality. Karen Vaughn saw the vision and joined Jennifer as a director of Casa de Esperanza. The ground was "officially broken" in July and construction began in earnest in October. By December, most of the work was complete and there was a celebration. The first container of supplies and furniture arrived in February and Jennifer and Karen were able to move in by March. The months of "red tape" finally came to an end in early summer of 2006 and on June 23rd, INFA approved Casa de Esperanza as a facility to be home for up to 24 children. Children that will no longer be orphans, because orphans don't have anyone to love them and our kids will be loved on 24/7. On June 26th, The "House of Hope" received their first 5 children.

Remember the story of those first five children...you will be hearing more and more about them!

Karen got married to Dorian Guido and they are now expecting their first child. They still love on the kids at Casa 24/7. I have so enjoyed meeting Karen these last two trips to Honduras and I so appreciate the time she takes to keep me updated about Daniela!!!! Please remember them in your prayers as often as possible.

I finally got to meet Jennifer Wright this trip. What an amazing lady of God!!! You will hear more about Jennifer, too.

Mission Akron Flash Mob

Mission Akron students went out to Summit Mall on Tuesday evening to have their own flash mob...it was awesome. Here is a little clip of what they did...God can indeed make beautiful things out of dust...He can make beautiful things out of us!!!

Mission Akron ~ First Glance

Kenmore has a hidden secret in First Glance. We went over to help First Glance clean their facility and were surprised by this virtually hidden place. The students of Kenmore have the opportunity to see the love of God first hand as they go up and use the computers...visit the skate park, or just sit and play video games with other students. It is a safe haven for these teens and we were happy to help clean even if it meant scraping gum off the bottoms of tables. And there was always some time for a little fun as you can see in these pictures!!!!

More Mission Akron ~ Amazing Race

Each afternoon, we went over to Open M and ran the Amazing Race. It was just like SKS or Bible School. I helped Patti Knight and Verlin McCulley with the Coaches (formerly known as Family Leaders or Team Leaders). Again...we had eleven awesome students as our coaches. The neighborhood kids loved them. The praise and worship team coached by Mike Noland did an awesome job and everyone loved, loved, loved the music. This is a program written by Josh Harris and Josh Musser that was used at ABT in Kidz City. It was indeed amazing!

Mission Akron Continued

We also had the opportunity to go to the Food Bank and help. We packed frozen meat, chips and snacks, and cleaned heads of cabbage. What an experience to see the process to help feed those who are less fortunate in the Akron area.
