So now that the decision had been made to become part of the team...we needed to start figuring our ways to raise monies. The Wallaces increased by one as Daniel signed on to go again. So we needed to pay for three. We were representing Akron Baptist Temple along with Mike Noland and Caity Davis...and Norton was well represented with Caity and Jared Emerick joining the team.
So off I went to the internet to see what ideas we could come up with for this trip. In the past, I've seen the teams sell raffle tickets for gift baskets, candy bars, and of course the support letters were sent to family and friends. So we wanted something different. And I found it!!! PINK FLAMINGOS!!! What, you say? PINK FLAMINGOS!!! That's right...You've Been Pink'd became an ongoing fundraiser for our team.
A cute little flock of flamingos would show up in someone's front yard with a sign saying, "you've been pink'd by the Honduran Missions Team. The back of the sign gave them their options:
- Promise to pray for us and we will pick the flamingos up at no charge!!
- Donate $5.00 to help the Honduran people feel the love and we will retrieve our flamingo friends.
- Donate $10.00 and we will place the flamingos in the yard of your choosing.
- An additional $5.00 will get us to spill the beans on who put them in your yard.
The flamingos have been all over Norton, Barberton, Wadsworth, Akron and have even traveled as far as Kent, Doylestown, and Uniontown. They are a very friendly group of pink birds and so far ALMOST everyone has enjoyed them.
What a great fundraiser this has been! THANK YOU to ALL the good sports out there who have been pink'd. Oh..and watch out...the pink'ng may continue...who knows????
